Check out DNA Genotek at ICHG/ASHG

oragene t shirt dna salivaIt’s that time of year once again; time for one of the biggest conferences in human genetics (ICHG/ASHG) and we’re looking forward to seeing you at the meeting in Montreal, QC from October 11-15th. It’s one of our favorite annual events and as such, we’ve planned something special that we know you will like. In order to get the details of this special announcement, you’ll have to drop by our booth #1004 (or listen to it second hand because news like this is bound to travel fast).

With over 5,000 delegates trying to prioritize where they spend their time at the meeting, we thought we would summarize what we’re doing in our blog, The Genetic Link, to make it easier for you.

T’s please

If you aren’t already aware, we are well known for having some of the best T-shirts at ASHG. We often get requests for some of our previous renditions so this year we’re doing something different: We’re going retro. Based on popular demand we are bringing out past show T’s – all of them, whatever we have – and in exchange for completing a simple survey you will receive a T-shirt as a thank you. The sooner you drop by to see us, the more choices you will have.

Ancillary session

This year we are pleased to be hosting an ancillary session with Dr. Eric Stanek Pharm.D., Vice President of Research and Head of the Intramural Clinical Research at Medco Health Solutions, Inc. Dr Stanek will be presenting Case Studies in Translational Genomics which will help the attendees at this session understand that in order to fully realize the potential of genomics in medicine, practical real-world research and engagement are needed to translate that potential into applications that have demonstrable clinical and personal utility, while being both effective and safe.

Dr. Stanek has authored more than 100 research publications and is a frequent presenter at national and international healthcare professional society meetings. Join us for this opportunity to hear Dr. Eric Stanek speak on translational genomics. The session will be held Wednesday, October 12, 2011, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at Le Centre Sheraton Hotel, Salon 4/5, Level 2. Refreshments will be served. If you haven't already done so, you can register here.

Scientific posters

We are excited to be presenting two scientific posters this year including one on Next Generation Sequencing.

Evaluation of pharmacogenetic markers by exome-sequencing of DNA extracted from saliva samples

Presented by: Rafal Iwasiow, Ph.D., Poster board number: 1384F, Friday, October 14th, 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Evaluation of oral samples and tracheal fluid collection from premature newborns as a source of DNA for genotyping

Presented by: Jacques Niles, M.Sc., Poster board number:  838T, Thursday, October 13th, 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

And on the topic of scientific posters, here’s some other interesting information. There are 12 Oragene customers presenting their posters highlighting the research they have done while using our products.  As the use of our product continues to increase in the research community, it feels good to know that our products can be used for such novel projects. Attend any of the poster sessions below to learn how our customers are using Oragene:
