Examining how saliva specimens collected with Oragene ONE are a reliable alternative to blood and buccal swabs for large scale DNA extraction and HLA typing of recruits for Haemopoietic Stem Cell Donor Registries.
Breakfast session at EFI
May 17, 2010 7:15 am to 8:15 am
Volunteer unrelated donors joining our register provide peripheral blood/EDTA samples for DNA extraction and molecular HLA typing. Specimens from prospective donors are collected by phlebotomists at recruitment clinics or by their GP on receipt of a postal blood kit. Many registries now use buccal swab specimen self collection enhancing clinic efficiency, electronic recruitment and postal kit processing. We investigated the Oragene saliva system (DNA Genotek) as a means of self collection for new donors. Learn our results at this session.
