I am excited to tell you that today, at the America Society for Human Genetics conference, DNA Genotek launched a new service offering that we're very excited about. GenoFIND™ Genomic Services is a new offering that delivers nucleic acid extraction and detailed analysis optimized for samples collected with our products. The GenoFIND service leverages our expertise with DNA from saliva (Oragene®) to deliver superior support, analysis and easy-to-understand reporting of genomic data designed for geneticists and non-geneticists alike. Many customers want a vendor to offer a solution that spans collection, extraction, testing, analysis and reporting – DNA Genotek will fill this void through offering these high quality services to our customer base.
We recently published an article highlighting how to choose the best method for low-throughput DNA extraction for Oragene samples. Today, we examine various options for high-throughput DNA extraction. High-throughput DNA extraction uses an automated, robotic system to provide researchers and clinicians with high quality genomic DNA. The main advantages of this method are less hands-on time, higher consistency and reduced probability for manual errors. High-throughput extraction is generally preferred when there are a large number of samples to be processed, however whether processing a small or a very large number of samples, automation is a great way to gain efficiencies and consistency in results.
If you’ve followed DNA Genotek for a while, you’ve probably seen some of our famous t-shirts that are handed out at the American Socieity for Human Genetics (ASHG) meeting each year and you may even be lucky enough to have one. Some of our personal favorites are ‘Spit Happens’ and ‘The Oragene of Species’. With ASHG 2012 coming up in November, it’s time to roll up our sleeves and get to work on the design for this year’s shirts. This time around, however, we’re going to change things up a little and bring you on board as part of our new design team.
We are so pleased to let you know that we have released our first video protocol for the extraction of DNA from the Oragene and ORAcollect families of collection kits. We know how much our customers rely on our written protocols for the purification of DNA from saliva with our products, so we wanted to offer you an additional tool as you begin processing your samples. This first video is for the DNA Genotek protocol titled Laboratory protocol for manual purification of DNA from 0.5mL of sample (protocol # PD-PR-006). This is our most popular protocol so we decided to make this one available in video format first.
