In the summer of 2011 we wrote about an exciting project out of the United Kingdom that selected Oragene collection kits for a study that aimed to unlock genetic changes behind development disorders. The Deciphering Developmental Disorders (DDD) study is a direct collaboration with all twenty-three of the NHS Clinical Genetics Services from across the UK together with the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute.
DNA Genotek's Sample Collection Blog
In a recent article on The Genetic Link, we talked about going global and how our regulatory strategy helps support our customers who are conducting genetic research. Today, I am focusing on the work we do to ensure our products' compatibility with the technologies our genetic research and testing customers use in the field and in their labs.
We are very excited to tell you about a new award from DNA Genotek. Today, we introduced the GenoFIND Genomic Services Award, which is designed to facilitate analysis of nucleic acid samples. The award will accelerate genetic discoveries by providing $10,000 US in GenoFIND services to the selected winner. GenoFIND is a compilation of commercially available genomic services that include: nucleic acid extraction, SNP genotyping, PCR-based assays, whole genome and targeted sequencing, array-based SNP and expression profiling, custom assay development and bioinformatic analysis.
On June 22, 2011, Principal Investigator and professor of human genetics, pediatrics and urology at UCLA, Dr. Eric Vilain and his team of researchers revealed the results of their study titled “Epigenetic Predictor of Age”. In this study, the research team demonstrated that a person’s age could be reliably predicted from the DNA in saliva samples collected with Oragene using methylation patterns.
This month, PLoS ONE published a new research study that I think will interest readers of The Genetic Link. The study, titled "Array-Based Whole-Genome Survey of Dog Saliva DNA Yields High Quality SNP Data", was written by Jennifer S. Yokoyama, Carolyn A. Erdman and Steven P. Hamilton of the Department of Psychiatry and Institute for Human Genetics, at the University of California, San Francisco. The study is interesting for several reasons.
At the 2010 Plant and Animal Genome Conference in San Diego, DNA Genotek officially launched our newest sample collection product called Performagene•LIVESTOCK. Performagene•LIVESTOCK, a simple and easy-to-use nasal collection device for cattle, sheep and swine, provides high quality and high quantity DNA that remains stable at ambient temperatures.
