“Our mission is to extend and improve lives by making genomics a foundational part of everyone’s health and wellness journey.” - Alexander Bisignano.
Alexander Bisignano’s early passion for science and biology led him on an exciting journey to becoming the CEO of Phosphorus, a company with a ground-breaking approach to medical-grade genetic testing.
Recently, Alexander and his co-founder launched GeneCompass, a preventative consumer-genetic test, powered by Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technology to examine more than 400 genes. The test leverages DNA Genotek’s Oragene•Dx at-home, self-collection saliva devices to collect high-quality DNA samples in order to detect more than 200 health risks, over 200 genetic drug interactions, and uncover insights into more than 40 wellness attributes.
Alexander’s idea finds its origins in the rising global popularity of genetic testing, among healthcare professionals, academics, researchers, and lately consumers. Advances in genetic-sequencing technologies have paved the way for adapted diagnostic as well as therapeutic health services; and have improved patients’ and individuals’ health outcomes through personalized health.
Alexander and his co-founder wanted to deliver a genetic-testing service that focuses primarily on providing the technology, infrastructure, and expertise to drive healthcare care initiatives. They established a CLIA-certified* laboratory, in New Jersey, that allows patients and their physicians to utilize genetic testing for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.
In the most recent episode of our Podcast, Molecules, Microbes, and Multiomics, we invited Alexander Bisignano to tell us more about his company’s application of genetic testing and to share what is in store for them in the future.
We hope you enjoy the conversation!
